Sense-making, Transliteracy and TPACK

While preparing my next draft of my capstone prototype, the new readings, definitions/information and Punya Mishra video gave me a lot to think about.
I couldn't help but think of these six year olds entering this new environment(my 1st grade classroom) and jumping in being required to make sense of everything I am throwing at them then expecting them to adjust and or adapt as soon as changes need to be made. It seems a bit far fetched(especially to their parents) but they need to begin to get prepared for this ever changing world now.
TPACK's components help ensure quality teaching so that students keep up and/or stay in touch with the world they will soon enter not only as functioning citizens  but in the workforce as well. For teaching to be innovative teachers need to do something hasn't been done before and as long as we keep doing the same thing we have always done schools are not properly preparing our children for how to live 20 years from now.
I realize I will need to consider activities/lessons that offer resources and ways for students to find methods and/or tatics to respond new or challenging information so that they can process it correctly. The importance of students being able to engage in various ways to communicate learning whether it be by print, digital, multimedia, or orally is something that must be practiced daily. Lastly, the context of how and what is taught is the key that could open up doors to produce the kind of thinkers needed in the 21st century.

Alexis,

Your blog summarizes your reflections on what we are learning in this program. I agree that we as educators/teachers need to be examples of life long learners, and ensuring we are providing instruction that will help students with their academics and skills that they will need as adults and in the workforce. I wonder if there are curriculum, etc. that targets students in early grades. While I know we have access to various online resources, it is evident that some teachers need additional resources, etc. to help with innovation and technology. It can be tasking and time consuming outside the classroom to create and gather up various instructional materials.

Regards,

Alexis,

Throughout our two semesters so far in this program, I have thought many times how your ideas and creativity in your classroom activities and perspectives on the course content have inspired me to do things a bit differently and have a more can do and positive attitude towards my own identity as a teacher. Your comments on this weeks blog about students needing to practice different forms of communication daily reminds me of the different ways students were to interact during your mystery box activity from last weeks flipped videos in 702. And the way you would engage their attention is brilliant right from the beginning.

The connection with different forms of communication and the TPACK seems like you could possibly build that into your next round of research. Individualizing learning by incorporating different forms/levels of speaking, writing, creating might be a way to support struggling students while also letting those more advanced kids go deep into the content and make something they could share with others.

I’m with you when you say there is a lot to think about after all the information what we have received. I think it is going to make us better teachers and I’m interested to see how we all incorporate our new knowledge into our instruction. I feel that our students are get to be the ones that gain the most from out new knowledge. I’m also worried about how to incorporate it . In know with you they are so young the problem for me is that it is a new area for me with me changing schools.
In response to your comments on my Blog it’s great that technologies and fitness in being interwind and I think it will increase peoples engagement in becoming healthier human beings.
